Fish on the Reefs
The reef sites off LBI have started to produce large sea bass and nice keeper size fluke.  On the other hand, the bay fishing has really slowed to a hault.  We fished the bay hard on Friday but a strong west wind made for a bad drift and the fish were very hard to find.  My crew was from Colorado and I wish I could have really put them on the fish.  Towards the end of the trip we went looking for blues in the inlet and were greeted by a family of dolphin who were snacking on bunker.  The kids enjoyed being on the ocean for the first time in their lives.

Saturday I took the day off from fishing and did boat maintenance all day.  I had a bad bildge pump which turned out to be an electrical short.

On Sunday, we decided to change tactics and worked our way out to the Garden State South Reef which is about 8 miles off Brant Beach.  Many of you who have fished with me in the past have fished this area.  The weather was beautiful and the seas were calm and the fish cooperated.  We put some nice fluke and sea bass in the boat and had steady action throughout the trip.  The water has really warmed up in a hurry and I expect this hot reef fishing to continue throughout the summer.

The shark tournanment I was supposed to be in on my last posting did not happen.  We could not get a crew togther.

Looking forward to Another Great Season!
Captain Dave's Charters in now officially back for another season in Beach Haven.  Last summer in Beach Haven was very successful and the weather treated us well.  The fall fishing in Sandy Hook was better than I expected.  Each trip had keeper striped bass with many of our trips reaching our limit.

So far this season, the schools of bunker have shown up along the beaches with bass reaching 30-40 pounds underneath.  The bay fluking has also been hot in the great bay area.  We have landed fluke up to 19" and there have been reports of large breeders in the 5-6 pound class.  I am supposed to fish a Mako Shark tournament this weekend.  I will let everyone know how we do.

Please call me in advance of your vacations in order to reserve the date you want.  Last year, several of my return customers were not able to get out on the water because I was already booked.

I am proud to be a part of a long line of Beach Haven charter captains who get to play an important part in your family's vacations each year.
